This is my house:
I instantly fell in love with it- the big porch, the giant tree out front, the adorable old woodwork. One thing I didn’t think about was the lawn. Do you see how bare it is?! We’ve lived in the house for a year and a half, and finally this weekend decided to fix that horrible, brown yard.
We went out and bought a large amount of grass seed and a tiller. (At least I think that’s what it’s called.) Alex and I took turns tilling the dirt and then spreading the seeds. It was supposed to really storm last night (didn’t happen) and continue to rain through Wednesday. Since you’re supposed to water your yard every day after planting seeds, we figured this would be the easiest time to do it. We’re lazy homeowners, okay?
What you can’t see in the picture are the couple of spots that grow like crazy. It’s been gross weather around here, so this weekend we finally had a chance to get out and mow those spots and our big patchy back yard. Of course, we couldn’t get our lawn mower started. After trying for about 20 minutes by ourselves, our nice neighbor from across the street came over and tried to help us. He took apart the mower and saw that we needed a new spark plug. So we drove to the auto parts store 2 miles away and bought a new spark plug. Nice neighbor installed it, and the mower started right up. Woo hoo! We get back to our yard, start it up, and the stupid thing stops after about a minute. And won’t restart. We messed with it for a little longer, then got frustrated and quit. Yesterday Alex’s dad, who used to run a lawn mowing business, came over to look at it. Pretty much, we could either buy a new mower, or take it to a shop and have someone look at it, which would start at around $100 and go up depending on the problem. So yesterday we bought a new mower. And by we, I mean Alex. (Thanks babe for using your tax return money!)
After spending too much time in our yard this weekend, I decided I’m ready to put a flower bed in front. There’s a little 11×3 foot spot in front of the porch that would be perfect. So we looked at flowers and bushes and things, and next week I’m planting my very first flower garden! I’m weirdly excited about it. Hopefully I’ll remember to take some before/during/after pics.
